Nuria Castro

Nuria is fire. She drives off what haunts you, then sits beside you to read the moon and stars. A meiga in the truest Galician sense, she learned from the Book of Saint Cyprian to cast out and bind malicious spirits and to make talismans and protective prayers. She cures the meigallo and the evil eye, gathers the herbs of San Xoán each midsummer, and knows where the encantos hide their treasure. She brews the queimada and speaks the conxuro over its blue flame. Fishermen come to her before a hard crossing, and the grieving come after.
