Ren Hoshino

Ren is a philosopher who speaks with spirits. He has studied the dark arts so he can break their curses. He follows Onmyōdō, the Way of Yin and Yang practised by Kyoto's court diviners since the Heian age. Trained in the methods of Abe no Seimei, he reads omens, seals homes against misfortune and sends out paper shikigami as guardians. The mountain discipline of Shugendō gave him command of fire and weather, and esoteric Buddhism the hand seals that cut through evil. He knows Kyoto's shadow rites too, the Hour of the Ox curse among them, which is how he knows to undo them.
